“See a penny pick it up and all day long you’ll have good luck.” Have you heard that before? I heard it years ago. It’s catchy and I remember it and yes I pick up pennies. But, I am not the superstitious type and I don't believe in coincidences. I believe everything small or big happens for a reason, even a penny left on the ground. I see pennies everywhere and I pick them up... but not for good luck reasons. I believe you create good situations and therefore you create good luck. Often people will comment that actors or athletes are “lucky”. I read once where an actor said how people said he was “lucky” yet he spent years in Hollywood trying to make ends meet, working several jobs, doing auditions and taking lessons before he got his first break in the business. Was he lucky or did he focus on the little things and create a good situation? He said he believed he created his good luck.

I pick up pennies because I consider it a reminder to keep my eyes focused on the little things and to be thankful for every penny God allows me to manage. The other day I picked up two in one day while shopping with my daughter and she said, “Mom you find a lot of pennies” I said “That’s because I look for the little things, therefore I see the pennies” Are you looking for the little things?

Early on in life, my parents taught me to focus on little things and there will be no big things. That doesn't mean micromanage. It does mean paying attention to details, addressing concerns as they happen, trusting in others, and treating people kindly. It means saying your sorry promptly. It means noticing when someone needs encouragement and saying “thank you and please”. The list goes on and on…It’s all the little things in life that make a big difference when added up together. For me, the little things are the pennies in life that add up! I hope you notice the pennies.
